Whether you are a ping pong enthusiast or a beer pong professional, you probably spend a lot of your time messing with little white ping pong balls. These things are nice because they are versatile and can be used in a number of different games. Unfortunately for me, when I play ping pong, I have an extraordinarily hard time controlling how hard I hit that little white ball.
Maybe I have spent way too much time in the weight room, but my strength forces me to sometimes put dents in these ping pong balls. For the longest time, I thought that when a ball was dented in this way, it had to be thrown away. Now, I realize that this is false. If you do not crack that ping pong ball, then you can actually fix it. Below are some methods for fixing dented ping pong balls in an effort to get the game of Beirut back up and moving.
How to Fix a Dented Ping Pong Ball
The water method is probably the easiest way to fix a dented ping pong ball. All you have to do is get a pot and boil some water on the stove. From there, what you need to do should be fairly obvious. Place the dented ping pong ball in the water and leave it there until it regains that characteristic spherical shape. After you do this, take the ball out and wrap it in a paper tower until it is ready to be used again.
Another way to do it also requires heat, but it is a little bit more dangerous. Unless you are a smoker, you will need to use the help of someone who is very steady with a lighter. Use a lighter to apply a direct flame to where the ping pong ball is dented. This takes a little bit of care because if you apply too much heat to the ping pong ball, it will end up melting in your hands. To avoid this mess, gently spin the ball over the flame. This will force the gases within the ball to expand and pop the dent back out.
These are easy ways to fix a dented ping pong ball. Depending on how much time you have at your disposal, using one of these methods is a great way to ensure that you can reuse that ping pong ball instead of just tossing it in the waste basket.
